Walt Whitman

Whitman's poem Pioneers O Pioneers was written in response to the Westward Expansion and the California Gold Rush. The Westward Expansion is when Thomas Jefferson purchased Louisiana and the French government (Louisiana Purchase). He believed this was the beginning of America's wealth. The California Gold Rush began in 1848 in Sacramento Valley. When the word about the discovery of gold spread, the population of California begin to spread. This is interesting because the Levi Company used the poem to promote their company and increase their sales.
Levi was founded during the time of the California Gold Rush by Levi Strauss. He moved to San Francisco  and designed jeans fit for men to work in. The analysis that can be made form this situation is weather or not the Levi Company is using this poem for their pride of the history of Levi or to increase their sales. In the world we live in today, people do certain things for "the money". I believe its a sense of false advertisement because you are using a poem which inspires people and give them a glimpse of what people went through in history to promote a brand. I think its ironic that Levi Strauss went to San Francisco during the Gold Rush to supply the needs of jeans, because people were migrating to the California area, to make a profit; and now, the Levi Company is using an inspirational poem to promote their company. I believe history is repeating itself and people are overlooking that.
